Famous Female Snowboarders – Part 2

Our second visit to the pistes of the world to discover some of the most famous female snowboarders, once again highlights some of the elite sportswomen that have ever strapped their boards on and headed down the snowy slopes.

Linn Haug

Our first European snowboarder to appear in our prestigious list is the Norwegian, Linn Haug. As a competitor Linn started late in life at fifteen. Linn is a competent snowboarder and from 2005 she started winning her first competitions in Norway. Two years later she started to compete internationally and was awarded bronze in Lake Placid, but it was not until 2008 her first World Cup Finals and European Cup wins started to come. Linn Haug has been nominated female snowboarder of the year in her home country in 2007, 2008, and 2009.

Alena Zavarzina

Alena Zavarzina hails from Russia, and she like to specialize in the parallel giant slalom competitions. She won gold in this event at the 2011 World Championships and collected a bronze medal also for the event at the 2014 Olympics. In the 2016/17 World Cup season she collected gold for the parallel giant slalom crystal globe. Zavarzina started snowboarding early in life in her hometown of Novosibirsk when she was just ten years of age. Since then this Russian powerhouse has dominated her discipline in snowboarding.

Silje Norendal

Keeping with a Nordic theme, our next female snowboarder comes from Norway and is Silje Norendal. A highly skilled athlete, Norendal competes in the boarderscross, slopestyle, and the halfpipe. Her main achievements included winning gold in the women’s slopestyle in 2013 at the Winter X Games. And a year later she repeated this feat in Aspen, Colorado which threw down the gauntlet to her nearest competitors. The same year she was just nudged out of the medal positions when she finished fourth in the 2014 Olympics competing in the slopestyle. However, in 2015 she reclaimed the gold position in the Winter X Games in Colorado. Her private life also hit the headlines when she married hockey player Alexander Bonsaksen earlier this year.
